The Weekly Top 3 (1.31.2022)
Why some #akleg don't support POMV 50/50 even though the $$ are there this year, why "fix the PFD now and everything else later" doesn't fly & campaign finance needs to be part of any #akelect reform
Welcome to The Weekly Top 3 — our look at the top 3 things on our mind here at Alaskans for Sustainable Budgets — for the week of January 31, 2022.
The Weekly Top 3 is a regular weekly segment on The Michael Dukes Show. The Show broadcasts on FacebookLive and via streaming audio from the Show’s website weekdays from 6–8am. I join Michael each week on Tuesday’s show, from 6:20–7am, for a discussion between the two of us about the three issues.
As listeners will note about half-way through, we ran into some technical issues while recording this week’s segment, but by resorting to the old school approach of calling in, we overcame and finished.
This week our Top 3 issues are these: 1) we discuss why some some legislators don’t appear to support a PFD even at the POMV 50/50 level, although the money to pay it is clearly there this year (2:17); 2) we discuss why the approach some take of settling the PFD now and deal with the remainder of the fiscal issues later isn’t realistic (14:47); and 3) we discuss why campaign finance issues should be an integral part of the election issues being addressed this year by both the House and Senate (20:58).
The segment is at the YouTube clip above. For those that prefer the audio version, it is available both on our Spotify and Soundcloud pages. For this and other complete podcasts of The Michael Dukes Show, go to the Show’s Soundcloud page here.
