The Weekly Top 3 (10.16.2023)
With savings & the PFD nearly drained, the PF Board proposes coming for the PF corpus, AIDEA con'ts to frustrate & looking at #AKoiltax credits as 'tax expenditures"
Welcome to The Weekly Top 3 — our look at the top 3 things on our mind here at Alaskans for Sustainable Budgets — for the week of October 16, 2023.
The Weekly Top 3 is a regular weekly segment on The Michael Dukes Show. The Show broadcasts on Facebook and YouTubeLive as well as via streaming audio from the Show’s website weekdays from 6–8am. I join Michael weekly in the first hour of Tuesday’s show, from 6:10–7am, for a discussion between the two of us about our three issues.
This week our top 3 issues are these: 1) we discuss the Permanent Fund Board’s proposal to change the structure of the Permanent Fund; to us, it represents the attempted completion of a triple play — first, the legislature came for savings, then they came for the PFD, and now, they are coming for the Permanent Fund corpus (2:21); 2) we explain why we are increasingly frustrated from a fiscal perspective with the direction in which AIDEA — the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority — is headed (19:55); and 3) using an approach developed at the federal budget level, we examine another way to evaluate North Slope oil tax credits — or what would be called at the federal level, tax expenditures (37:15).
The segment is at the YouTube clip above. For those who prefer the audio version, it is available on our Spotify and Soundcloud pages. Go to the Show’s Soundcloud page here for this and other complete podcasts of The Michael Dukes Show.
