The Weekly Top 3 (10.30.2023)
Have Alaska R's given up on a market economy, more proposed spending from Alaska D's w/o addressing #WhoPays for it & some potentially good news for K-12 spending levels
Welcome to The Weekly Top 3 — our look at the top 3 things on our mind here at Alaskans for Sustainable Budgets — for the week of October 30, 2023.
The Weekly Top 3 is a regular weekly segment on The Michael Dukes Show. The Show broadcasts on Facebook and YouTubeLive as well as via streaming audio from the Show’s website weekdays from 6–8am. I join Michael weekly in the first hour of Tuesday’s show, from 6:10–7am, for a discussion between the two of us about our three issues.
This week our top 3 issues are these: 1) reflecting on the Administration’s recent proposals to subsidize Cook Inlet gas, we ask whether Alaska Republicans have given up on the free market (2:06); 2) we examine yet another pitch by Alaska Democrats for increased state spending without also addressing the issue of who they propose to pay for it (17:35); and 3) we look at some good news about a state push that potentially would have added even more pressure for increased K-12 funding (36:24). In addition, toward the end (43:50), we circle back for some continued discussion on the first two topics.
The segment is at the YouTube clip above. For those who prefer the audio version, it is available on our Spotify and Soundcloud pages. Go to the Show’s Soundcloud page here for this and other complete podcasts of The Michael Dukes Show.
