The Weekly Top 3 (4.25.2023)
The Binkleys want to dodge paying for govt; SFIN sets up an Alaska version of The Hunger Games but w/ one group excused & sales taxes aren't the right answer but better than nothing
Welcome to The Weekly Top 3 — our look at the top 3 things on our mind here at Alaskans for Sustainable Budgets — for the week of April 24, 2023.
The Weekly Top 3 is a regular weekly segment on The Michael Dukes Show. The Show broadcasts on Facebook and YouTubeLive as well as via streaming audio from the Show’s website weekdays from 6–8am. I join Michael weekly in the first hour of Tuesday’s show, from 6:25–7am, for a discussion between the two of us about our three issues.
This week our top 3 issues are these: 1) in a recent op-ed, the Binkley family — the owners of the ADN — make clear that while they support govt spending, they want other people to pay for it while they avoid (2:09); 2) the Senate Finance Committee is setting up an Alaska version of The Hunger Games, but with an exception — they are giving the Top20% a pass and allowing them to sit at home watching while the rest of Alaskans have to fight it out (19:13); and 3) sales taxes aren’t the right answer, but they are far better than doing nothing (27:53).
The segment is at the YouTube clip above. For those who prefer the audio version, it is available on our Spotify and Soundcloud pages. Go to the Show's Soundcloud page here for this and other complete podcasts of The Michael Dukes Show.
