The Weekly Top 3 (5.22.2023)
The one constant in this year's #AKbudget (spend, but don't tax me), the Binkley Family Blog badly misstates Hammond & to some, the size of this yr's budget is only the "first step"
Welcome to The Weekly Top 3 — our look at the top 3 things on our mind here at Alaskans for Sustainable Budgets — for the week of May 22, 2023.
The Weekly Top 3 is a regular weekly segment on The Michael Dukes Show. The Show broadcasts on Facebook and YouTubeLive as well as via streaming audio from the Show’s website weekdays from 6–8am. I join Michael weekly in the first hour of Tuesday’s show, from 6:25–7am, for a discussion between the two of us about our three issues.
This week our top 3 issues are these: 1) the one constant in this year’s budget (spoiler alert: it’s “spend, but don’t tax me, don’t tax you, tax middle & lower income Alaska families instead …”) (2:11); 2) how the ADN editorial board (what we sometimes refer to as the Binkley Family Blog) is misquoting former Governor Hammond in a recent op-ed (20:36); and 3) Rep. Zack Fields’ reveal that the size of this year’s budget is only the “first step” to even bigger spending ahead (30:52).
The segment is at the YouTube clip above. For those who prefer the audio version, it is available on our Spotify and Soundcloud pages. Go to the Show’s Soundcloud page here for this and other complete podcasts of The Michael Dukes Show.
