The Weekly Top 3 (6.12.2023)
How the #akleg can control the impact of $$oil cycles on the #AKbudget, a ballot measure we support but want more & we are shutting the PFC's barn door late, but better than not at all
Welcome to The Weekly Top 3 — our look at the top 3 things on our mind here at Alaskans for Sustainable Budgets — for the week of June 12, 2023.
The Weekly Top 3 is a regular weekly segment on The Michael Dukes Show. The Show broadcasts on Facebook and YouTubeLive as well as via streaming audio from the Show’s website weekdays from 6–8am. I join Michael weekly in the first hour of Tuesday’s show, from 6:25–7am, for a discussion between the two of us about our three issues.
This week our top 3 issues are these: 1) as we potentially face another, how Alaska can — and should — control the impact of oil price cycles on the state budget (2:17); 2) why we support a new ballot measure designed to impose campaign contribution limits in state races, but why it’s also only part of the needed solution (21:22); and 3) why Frank Murkowski’s proposal to shine more light on the Permanent Fund Corporation’s instate investment program is like shutting the barn door after some of the cows are already out, but also why it’s better than nothing at all (30:03).
The segment is at the YouTube clip above. For those who prefer the audio version, it is available on our Spotify and Soundcloud pages. Go to the Show’s Soundcloud page here for this and other complete podcasts of The Michael Dukes Show.
